We are looking for an experienced bookbinder with extensive knowledge of different binding and hand finishing processes to join our team at our Central London bindery and print workshop.
Essential characteristics:
- Knowledge in all hand bookbinding processes, from receiving flat sheets to section sewing, making cases and book repair in various materials – 2+ years
- Box making in various styles
- Using hand foil blocking machines
- Hand tooling
- Advising on potential solutions and options for customer projects (problem solving)
- Working in a small team
- Ability to estimate and use estimating system
- Short run case making
- Box making, ring binders and interscrew binders
- Bespoke projects
- Book repair (both cloth and leather)
- Ability to work to strict deadlines
Alongside these skills, the ideal candidate would also need to:
- Be comfortable with starting work early. The hours would be 7.30am – 4pm (Monday to Friday) with the occasional need to work overtime when facing very tight deadlines
- Have a desire to continue to learn new skills. Further training on additional processes may be required
Holiday Allowance: 20 days + standard UK bank holidays
Salary: £25,000.00-£35,000.00 per year (Depending on experience but we will consider paying more for an exceptionally experienced bookbinder)
